Trimease Carter is the Youth Relations and Organizational Equity Manager at Wholespire, where she oversees the implementation of The Healthy Young People Empowerment (HYPE) Project®. She is primarily responsible for guiding local youth teams to select, plan, and execute community service and advocacy activities that address health disparities and support healthy eating and active living in their communities, churches, and/or schools.

Upon joining Wholespire in 2012, Trimease spearheaded the development of The HYPE Project® in partnership with the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Under her leadership, The HYPE Project® has reached more than 1,000 youth in South Carolina and nationwide.

Trimease also has a passion for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and contributes greatly to Wholespire’s DEI efforts. She represents Wholespire on the South Carolina Race Equity and Inclusion Partnership, where she participated in the development of the Practitioner and Leadership Guides for Promoting Race Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace and later encouraged Wholespire to include these guides as tools in their 2021-2023 Strategic Plan. Trimease completed the Teaching Racial Justice in P-12 Schools course.

In addition to her youth engagement responsibilities, Trimease supports Wholespire chapters and community coalitions in strategic planning, project implementation, and other capacity building activities. She also leads the South Carolina Schools Network and represents Wholespire on the South Carolina Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness. To improve her skills as a nonprofit leader and better serve communities, she completed the Fred R. Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute in 2020.

Before joining Wholespire in 2012, Trimease was the Community Education Assistant at Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. In this position, she conducted over 350 youth violence prevention workshops with youth and young adults on topics related to dating violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. Additionally, she was the Project Coordinator for the Building Dreams Mentoring Program and was responsible for matching youth who had an incarcerated parent with mentors.

Trimease holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of South Carolina, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Claflin University.

A native of Ridgeville, South Carolina, Trimease has a deep love for the community of Campbell Thickett, where she grew up. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, she and her family hosted seven annual community Easter egg hunts to help raise awareness and educate the community on topics such as asthma, childhood obesity, and domestic violence. In her free time, Trimease enjoys road trips, reading, bargain shopping, and spending time with her two children, Lyric and Jeffrey.
